Okay, I’m going to be t hat guy. A gif file is not an animated image. It is just an image (like a jpg). An animated gif is an animated image file.

I’m going to be that guy and point out that those are two separate sentences and do not assert that all .gifs move. Also as animated .gifs have the same file extension as .gif, and common parlance normally refers to animated .gifs when referring to them, nothing I said was wrong. #pedantry
